One of the most striking aspects when you visit Santorini, Greece is to see it from a distance.

If you’re coming in from a ship, you’ll notice the beautiful cliffs appear to be snow-capped. As you draw closer, the white snow reveals itself as the white walls of villages.

It is a sight to behold. Greece has many wonderful islands to visit, but few can offer what Santorini has.

Fira is the most popular destination – the busiest of the towns. This is where most cruise ship passengers will visit. It is sprinkled with shops and restaurants that chatter with activity and color.

Come evening time. after a spectacular sunset view of volcanoes that pinnacle from azure blue sea, Fira becomes the nightspot of Santorini.

Bars and restaurants blossom into life, filling with sunned happy tourists having a good time.

Looking to be in a quieter parts when you visit Santorini? Then you will have no problem finding a place to stay elsewhere on the island.

Nearby is the village of Firostefani ( it is literally a 10-minute walk across the Caldera)

Imerovigli is another village of Santorini, Greece, north of the island capital Fira. The most famous aspect of Imerovigli is the beautiful sunset.

They call it the “balcony to the Aegean”. Here, you will discover many ornate churches, all made in the Cycladic architectural style.

The sand is black, made up of volcanic rock sand and stone. Stunningly beautiful in contrast with the blue of the Aegean.

There are, of course, a great many other islands to explore and places to visit in in Greece, many less known but gorgeous in their own right.

The Weather

The wet season is in winter  and summers are hot and dry. Bear in mind, it can get really hot in this part of the world, June is usually the hottest month with a record of  40 °C (104 °F) .

August is the windy month with October and February also witnessing  some seasonal winds.

Overall, southern Greece and Santorini enjoy fantastic weather

Greece is another area that is perceived to be inexpensive and, as with Spain, that is true only in some areas.

Generally, off the mainland, you will find the islands are more expensive. Santorini is almost a “designer island’ – a place for the high flyers to hang out. But happily, it is still reasonable and not outrageously expensive.
