Things to do in the Lake District
- The World of Beatrix Potter – Bowness-on-Windermere
- The Lakes Aquarium in Lakeside is another great place for a family outing. Visitors can see British sharks, a lobster, puffer fish and tortoises here.
- History lovers will find plenty of attractions here. There are rock carvings more than 6,000 years old in the central part of the district. Visitors can see ruins of Roman forts from the second century near Ravenglass in the western part of the Lake District and near Ambleside in the southeastern part of the district.
- The Duddon Iron Furnace near Broughton-in-Furness was built in the 18th century. Parts of Muncaster Castle near Ravenglass were also built in the 18th century.
- History lovers and art lovers will enjoy visiting Abbot Hall in Kendal. This mansion was built in 1759, and it is now an art gallery.
