Cabin luggage and the weird stuff you can take with you

weird stuff you can carry on with the airlines

Amazingly, it seems that the TSA and other airport authorities have some really quirky permissible items for cabin luggage. Things you would never imagine you could board an aircraft with..

Air travel is not only long but it brings about so many restrictions that are not only your leg room. If you have found some return low cost flights, chances are they will not be putting you in ‘stretch your legs’ business class. You also will not be receiving a generous cabin luggage allowance, so naturally that carry-on is going to be jammed.

But what can you actually take into the cabin with you?  The things you can have on your person or in your cabin luggage may surprise you. Interesting to know that there are some weird items that you can travel with, although it boggles the mind what you may need them for.

Suffice to say that there are zombies to be seen everyday at airports and not just on Halloween. Wherever you go in your world travel adventures, who isn’t a zombie after an 18 hour flight in coach only to be assaulted by the long custom lines of semi-controlled chaos?

It is therefore fitting, perhaps, that we celebrate our craziness by discovering just what insane off the wall stuff’ we can take with us on a plane that the TSA would accept as permissible items.

cabin luggage prohibited itemsNo, you can’t bring… those nunchucks.

Forget about bringing those weapons that have your cabin luggage looking like a Bruce Lee overnight bag. You’ll have to resort to the art of the empty hand if you’re planning to fend off a triad of Ninjas en route. Weapons of singular destruction are listed on the TSA’s “Prohibited Items” list, which I figure is quite reasonable.

But what’s really strange is that you can bring bondage items like whips and chains XXX action. Meanwhile, enacting on thoughts along those lines is prohibited during a flight and you could be arrested for attempting the 50 Shades of mile high club membership. However, oddly enough, your adult toys are a go. As long as all devices have batteries removed, you can take these with you on the flight. What you need them for in flight is a question I would prefer not to ask.

Boarding with an animal

No. I am not talking about your grouchy jet-lagged husband. I really mean a real animal. You may know that some people require either a medical dog or an emotional support dog in their travels.  The airlines have had to recognize emotional support animals should be permitted on flight – Service animals are allowed. The bad news, if you fly Emirates – service animal permitted but otherwise no pets, emotional support or otherwise, are allowed in Emirates’ cabins.  Insects, hedgehogs and goats cannot fly on the airline as passenger support animals. Miniature horses will still be allowed. Say what?!!! I can bring a horse with me next flight??

Other crazy items….skeleton bones YES but they have to be artificial…so sorry, no carrying great grandad to the Bahamas. Bicycle Chains in your overnight bag are also okay, which I find really odd. Didn’t gang-bangers of old use them as weapons? Body Armor is also okay in the overnight bag. Nervous flyers will also be happy to know they can get on the plane with a parachute.

It’s a crazy world…

Weird Items That You CAN Travel With in your cabin luggage or as carry on

 by Anna Brones

The prohibited items list from the TSA might seem long, but as it turns out, there are plenty of weird things that you can in fact travel with.

1. Snow GlobesAs long as it appears to be less than 3.4 ounces (which the TSA points out is about the size of a tennis ball), and you can fit it into your clear, plastic bag with all your other liquids, feel free to pop your favorite snow globe in your carry-on.

2. Ice SkatesYou might think that a blade that allows you to do double sow cows on frozen water wouldn’t make it past security, but ice skates are carry-on friendly.

3. Antlers Just like a bicycle, as long as its correctly packaged and you pay the fee, you can check a rack of antlers (provided there’s enough space on the plane). The skull must be wrapped and the tips covered though, and on some airlines they need to be in a hard sided box, so be sure that you work on your antler packing skills before you head to the airport.

4. Christmas Trees Delta is all about the holiday spirit, and is happy to accept your Christmas trees as long as they’re wrapped in burlap.

5. Really big musical instruments We’ve all seen the 20-something indie singer songwriter get on the plane with his/her guitar. But what about those instruments that won’t fit above or under the seat in front of you? KLM will actually let you book an individual seat for your instrument. Just in case you didn’t want to be separated from your harp for too long. That piano will have to travel as freight, however.
